Complaints about water, electricity and sewers have been the most common complaints in Ward 62 over the past months.
That’s according to Cllr. Liz Brunette, who updated members on ward issues at the Ward Committee meeting on 4 June.
The concern about water is good news, because it means residents are more conscious of water leaks than in the past. Reports of burst water pipes are also significantly down, which means that there are fewer problematic pipes in the ward.
Responses to complaints about electricity are not quite as prompt as before. That is because – as a result of budget cuts – complaints are rolled over to the next day when they are received after a certain time in the afternoon.
The 10 top complaint types received were about:
- Sewers: blocking, overflowing
- No power
- No water supply
- Water pressure
- Meter reading/consumption
- Quota increases because of restrictions
- Leaks at water meters
- Water run to waste
- Projects
- Queries escalated to level 1
The complaints by ward suburbs were as follows:
- Constantia
- Wynberg
- Plumstead
- Newlands
- Bishopscourt

Today we woke up to raw sewage running through our garden. Covering about 7m2. This is the third time in 4 months due to roots in Silverlea rd. Surely this is a matter that has to be checked monthly and fixed for once and for all. Luckily this time we were able to get the team to clean up after the raw sewage too. In the past I have had to. This time we also had an immediate response to the problem. Before we had to wait 48 hours. Raw sewage!
