Alternatives to the proposed MyCiti route

The WRRA supports the MyCiti bus but believes that the City has not explored alternatives because of the transport engineers’ fixation on using the road schemes that were rejected in 2002 by the entire Wynberg community. As the map below shows, the BRT has simply been copy/pasted onto a 1960s road scheme (with a slight variation in that it intersects higher up on Main Road). Integrated rapid public transport can – and should – contribute to urban spatial transformation and help redress the imbalances of the past … if implemented correctly and with the involvement of the community. The alternatives proposed below are supported by businesses, residents and taxi associations in Wynberg. They have all the characteristics of an integrated public transport network and, most importantly, will not destroy a well-functioning community that is mixed in terms of uses, income and race. alternatives
